School Description

This is a comprehensive school where a quarter of the students are selected on academic ability and a further 10% on musical aptitude. The majority of girls enter the school with standards that are well above national averages. The proportion of students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities is significantly below the national average. The proportion of children from minority ethnic groups is significantly above the national average, as is the proportion whose first language is not English. The numbers of students receiving free school meals is significantly below the national average. The school has visual arts specialist status, recently re-accredited, and achieved a second specialism in mathematics and computing in February 2007. The school works closely with Watford Grammar School for Boys in the provision of joint courses and curricular activities.

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

“Unsupportive school”

"> Only send your daughter there if all you care about is her grades. In my experience as a parent, there is only a handful of teachers that care about and truly support the students. They are harsh and cause a lot of extra stress on top of what already comes along with school and education (especially at sixth form). Some appear to care more about uniform than they do about the emotional wellbeing of students. Don't get me wrong, there are decent teachers but they are mainly the younger staff. The school attracts smart children which is why they produce excellent academics.
