School Description

Stewart’s Melville College is part of ESMS, a vibrant, friendly family of schools set in the heart of Edinburgh. For many years, we have provided a diamond model of education, with boys joining Stewart’s Melville College in S1 and girls joining our sister school, The Mary Erskine School. Students across both schools already share a rich integrated programme of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, building friendships and experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. From August 2026, these two schools will unite as Erskine Stewart Melville, a fully co-educational school from Nursery to Sixth Form. The Senior School will be based at Queensferry Road and the Junior School at Ravelston. This historic merger will bring together the strengths of both schools, offering young people the very best opportunities in a dynamic, supportive and inclusive environment. Our students are encouraged to explore their talents, challenge themselves and discover what they are capable of. With a strong academic tradition, an extensive outdoor learning programme and an unrivalled range of extra-curricular activities, we help young people build resilience, imagination and self-belief. They leave school with lifelong friendships and the confidence to take their place in the world as ambitious young adults.
