School Description

Founded in 1824, since 2008 the School is fully co-educational. A £6m development of new Nursery, Performing Art Centre and two astro-turf pitches have recently been completed following a £4.2m Science Centre in October 2006. 6th Form pupils opt for courses selected from Highers and A levels. Small class sizes, small year groups are key features. Mr Barry Welsh is the Rector and Mr Gavin Calder is the Headteacher of the Junior School.

“Bad sportsmanship”


I watched my 11 year old grandson play rugby for Clifton Hall School against an Edinburgh Academy team recently. The Academy team was easily the stronger team a won the game with ease. The game was spoiled by the Academy boys arguing with the referee and general bad sportsmanship. I told their games master that I was an Academically (1958-62) and that I was appalled at his team’s behaviour and was told “they are always like this”. I can only hope that this is a one off.
