School Description

The school is smaller than the average-sized secondary school. The current principal was appointed in September 2018. The Brittons Academy became a member of the Empower Learning Academy Trust in September 2016. The multi-academy trust is governed by a trust board. Following the previous inspection in May 2017, trustees established an interim transition board for the school. The majority of pupils are from White British backgrounds. The remainder of pupils are from a range of minority ethnic backgrounds. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for support through the pupil premium is well above the national average. The proportion of pupils with SEND is average. The proportion of pupils who have an education, health and care plan is average. The school uses alternative provision at Koru Independent Academy, Romford, The Inspection report: The Brittons Academy, 3–4 July 2019 Page 7 of 10 Bridge, Romford, and Barking and Dagenham College for a very small number of pupils.

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

“New year 7 pupil”
"> My daughter has just started year 7 and is really enjoying it so far. She seems to be progressing well and is very happy there.
“Such a lovely school”
"> I cannot speak highly enough of Brittons Academy. My daughter had been a pupil for the last 4 years and it’s my sons first choice in secondary school. My daughter has enjoyed every minute and has shown this in her progress it has been amazing because she is so happy there. The teachers are all so kind and caring which makes the school have a very special feel about it - I can only see the school getting better and better.
“Thumbs up for Brittons Academy”
"> Both my children love this school and are doing amazing. All the teachers in all departments are great and and really know their children well. They’ve both made great friends and are both socially & academically are thriving. Would highly recommend this school.
“Well done Brittons Academy”
"> My child is doing very well at Brittons Academy and enjoys going to school. The staff are all very good at their job and loyal. Many of the staff were there when I was at school, so this just goes to show how well they think the school is, or they would have moved on. Hoping my other child gets a place in September 2019 and succeeds.
“Really pleased”
"> I am really pleased with the school. My son struggled with the transition from Primary school to Secretary school they are really supportive. They really helped us and he is now thriving.
