St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School is smaller than the average-sized primary school. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils is above the national average. The proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language is above the national average. There is one class in each year group from Reception to Year 6. There is a morning Nursery class. The school’s most recent section 48 inspection for schools with a religious character took place in January 2016. The school runs a breakfast club. Inspection report: St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, Wednesfield, 20–21 November 2018 Page 11 of 13 Information about this inspection Inspectors observed pupils’ learning in parts of 19 lessons. Five of these observations were undertaken jointly with the headteacher. One inspector visited the breakfast club. Inspectors observed pupils’ behaviour in lessons and at breaktimes and lunchtimes. They spoke formally with two groups of pupils as well as talking to pupils in lessons and around the school. An inspector listened to a group of pupils read and talked to them about their reading. Inspectors examined the quality of work in pupils’ English, mathematics and topic books. An inspector scrutinised children’s learning journals. Discussions were held with the headteacher, deputy headteacher and other school leaders. The lead inspector met with a group of school staff and took into consideration the 27 responses to Ofsted’s online staff questionnaire. The lead inspector met with the chair and vice chair of the governing body and four governors. She also spoke to two representatives from the local authority and a representative from the diocese. Inspectors reviewed a wide range of documentation, including the school’s selfevaluation and improvement plans, information about current pupils’ achievement, records of checks made on the quality of teaching, records relating to safeguarding, minutes of meetings of the governing body and information on the school’s website. Inspectors took into consideration the 17 responses to Ofsted’s online questionnaire, Parent View. An inspector spoke to parents at the beginning of the school day.
