This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

Pupils thrive and feel safe in this warm and inclusive school community. They love coming to school. Staff are proud to be part of the team. Parents and carers are unwavering in their high praise and support for the school. The school motto, ‘Together, fly high like an eagle’, is deeply embedded in every aspect of school life. Pupils have a strong thirst for learning. This begins in the Reception Year, where children are curious and inquisitive. Pupils are highly motivated and have positive attitudes to learning. Staff have high expectations of all pupils. The school has a clear and consistent approach to support and promote these high standards. Pupils achieve well. They behave exceptionally well throughout the school. Pupils are polite, kind and courteous towards one another and adults. The school supports pupils to develop their character and resilience. From Reception Year onwards, children learn to develop a positive mindset that enables them to overcome setbacks in their learning. Pupils benefit from the meticulously planned opportunities to make a positive contribution to the school community. There is a role for everyone, including digital leaders and electrical twins. Sports leaders embrace their responsibility and support their peers during social times.

“A friendly school which fosters a love of learning”

"> St John's CE VC Primary is an outstanding school. What we like best about it is the community of staff, parents and children - everyone is so friendly, respectful and just pleasant! You can tell the teaching staff really enjoy working there and are proud of their school and their students. At this school, students are nurtured to love learning and be inquisitive, and diversity is celebrated. Students at St. John's are very well behaved and supportive of each other. At the end of the day, it's a primary school right in the middle of a large city, so the outside space is limited, but its close proximity to the Downs makes up for this. The school recently built a second site dedicated for infants to support its expansion. This site was designed-for-purpose and is stunning. The school was recently inspected by Ofsted; it's recommended reading, as the inspection team really captured this school well in their report.
