School Description

Pupils enjoy coming to this school. They say that they like the various activities on offer, such as building dens. Pupils told us that they feel safe and are happy at school. Pupils understand the key rules in place and how they help them to keep safe. For example, they know the importance of being in sight of an adult, particularly as almost all their learning experiences take place outdoors. Pupils know to keep within the rainbow ribbons, which tell them where to be. Pupils’ behaviour is good. They are confident that adults will listen to their worries and address any of their concerns. They have trust in their teachers to swiftly deal with any form of bullying. Leaders understand the school’s strengths and have identified areas that need improvement. There is more work to do to improve the quality of learning in some subjects, such as mathematics and reading. Teachers’ expectations of what pupils can do and achieve are not sufficiently high.

“Forest School is the future!”

My daughter moved up to LWS from Little Forest Folk. She is now in year 2 and loves going to school. Her eyes light up when she mentions project time and free choice play time. My elder two went to school the traditional way and if I could change anything I’d have LWS open earlier so I could have sent them here. Everything I didn’t like about the traditional way of teaching kids is turned on it’s head and re-examined for what it is or isn’t. Where LWS place most value is what we want future adults to grow into. They spend much more time focussing on empathy, teamwork and self awareness. The skills my daughter is learning here will not only give her great foundation’s for life but will enable her to contribute to the wider society in which she will live. Not only that but the foundations for each subject are so solid that they build each new level well. Unlike some schools where phonics are rushed or times tables are just the means to getting a good mark in a test. We love it at LWS and count ourselves very blessed to have the first outdoor school on our doorstep.

OUR INNOVATIVE FOUR-DAY WEEK TIMETABLE

Libery Woodland School Four Day Week

Liberty Woodland School is proud to be one of the first schools in the UK to introiduce a four-day week. Pupils, aged four to 16, are only required to be in class Monday to Thursday.

Instead of the usual 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday, the school day now starts at 8.30am and ends at 4.40pm, with no school on Fridays for pupils.

Families often chose Liberty Woodland because of its emphasis on wellbeing and the move is designed to offer pupils “increased opportunities for independent exploration and personal development”. Students say the four-day week, and the school’s focus on wellbeing, has helped their mental health.
