School Description

The school meets requirements on the publication of specified information on its website. The school complies with Department for Education guidance on what academies should publish. The school is smaller than an average-sized primary school. There is one class in each of Years 1 to 6 and a full-time Reception class. The majority of pupils are of White British origin. The remainder come from a range of other ethnic backgrounds. The proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language is small. The proportion of pupils who are known to be eligible for support through the pupil premium is below the national average. The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and the proportion of pupils with a statement of special educational needs or education, health Inspection report: John Blandy Primary School, 29–30 November 2016 Page 10 of 13 and care plan are around the national average. The school meets the government’s 2015 floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. The school converted to academy status in 2013 and joined the Faringdon Academy of Schools. The headteacher returned to school in September 2016, following maternity leave which began in November 2015.

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the last School Census (released annually in July).

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.
