This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

School Description

This school is much smaller than the average-sized primary school. All pupils are White British. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for the pupil premium is below average. (The pupil premium is additional funding for those pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals, children from service families and those children that are looked after.) The proportion of pupils supported at school action is well-below average. The proportion of pupils supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is well-below average. The school’s Year 6 classes are too small to be measured against the government’s current floor standards. These set out the minimum expectations for pupils’ progress and attainment. There is a breakfast club which is managed by the governing body and run by staff. The school has been federated with Castleton Community Primary School since April 2013. The schools have been in a loose federation since March 2012. The headteacher is headteacher of both schools, between which she shares her time. She has been headteacher of this school since September 2012, after being acting headteacher from March 2012. When she is in the other school, the day-to-day management of this school is conducted by the Key Stage 2 teacher. There is one governing body for both schools. Teachers and teaching assistants work between both schools. The school went through a period of disruption in 2011 and 2012 due to the unavoidable absence of the previous headteacher. The school works in partnership with other schools, colleges and businesses in a wider geographical area. There are two classes: for pupils in Reception and Years 1 and 2; and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
