This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Beauchamps High School is an above-average-sized secondary school. The school operates within an area which is also served by six grammar schools. The vast majority of students are of White British heritage. The pupil premium (additional government funding for disadvantaged students) provides support for a fifth of the students at the school. This is below the national average. The proportion of disabled students and those who have special educational need supported through school action is one in 20. This is below the national average. The proportion supported through school action plus or a statement is one in 10. This is above the national average. Seven students attend part-time provision off-site at Circles Farm and South Essex College, where they study a range of work-oriented practical courses. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for the students’ attainment and progress.

“Superb support for both of our children”

unlock
"> Our eldest has just left with outstanding A-levels and is off to Uni. Our youngest is on track to do well at GCSE thanks to superb teaching, guidance and pastoral support. Found staff at all levels approachable and responsive.
“Beauchamps review”

unlock
"> Very pleased with Beauchamps as the choice of school for my daughter. She had a very smooth transition from primary school and has made a steady academic improvement over her first year. She is happy in school and feels safe there. With the schools above average exam results I am looking forward to seeing the end results.
“Excellent School”

unlock
"> This is a fantastic school which has an Outstanding rating with Ofsted. It is a school where Staff and Students are seen as Family members. The teachers constantly give up their time to support students and to make sure that they achieve as high a possible grade as they can.
“super school, best around”

unlock
"> It is an excellent school; really don't agree with previous comment. My child is not in top sets yet received huge amounts of support. New Head is always on the gate meeting students and parents and seems very approachable. My child enjoys being at Beauchamps and so do his friends, the teachers are excellent.
“Great School”

unlock
"> This is a great school with provisions for all types of students. The new school year with a new head continues to make this an 'Outstanding' School in Wickford. I have 2 students currently in the school and am glad I made Beauchamps a choice for them to continue their education.
“Awful if your child is not a naturally gifted high achiever”

unlock
"> There is no support in this school for children who require extra help to achieve their best. The school is only interested in naturally high achieving pupils that require minimal assistance in order to get good GCSEs. This is evident from the website: pupils that did not achieve highly but exceeded expectations are not featured. It is impossible to see the headteacher and the senior management team are not geared towards helping parents. If your child is able or a middle of the road child that just knuckles down, then go for it, otherwise, search elsewhere!
