Ysgol Gynradd Felinwnda is situated near the villages of Saron and Dinas on the outskirts of Caernarfon, and serves the villages and the surrounding area. It provides education for pupils between 3 and 11 years old. Children are admitted to the nursery class on a part-time bases in the September following their third birthday, and full-time in the September following their fourth birthday. During the inspection, there were 25 children on roll. There are currently no pupils in the Reception class. They are taught by two full-time teachers and one part-time teacher in two mixed-age classes. Welsh is the school’s everyday language and the main medium of teaching and learning. English is taught formally in key stage 2. Approximately 80% of pupils come from Welsh-speaking homes. There are no children from ethnic minority backgrounds. Very few pupils are eligible for free school meals, which is significantly lower than the national average. Sixteen per cent (16%) of pupils are on the school’s additional learning needs register. This is lower than the national percentage. There are no pupils with a statement of special educational needs. The headteacher was appointed in September 1994.
