School Description

The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. Since your appointment as headteacher, from deputy headteacher, in February 2017, you have continued to improve pupils’ progress and attainment. You have a dedicated team which is committed to providing pupils with a high-quality education. Children in the early years make good progress. They enter Year 1 with skills and abilities above those found nationally. By the end of key stage 1, pupils’ attainment in reading and mathematics is similar to national averages. In writing, it is above average. Overall, pupils make good progress by the end of key stage 2 and attain standards similar to those nationally. Sometimes, pupils reach standards that are higher than national averages. You provide pupils with a caring and inviting learning environment. Pupils are well mannered and welcoming to visitors and to each other. Their behaviour is good and at times it is exemplary. Pupils want to come to school and learn. Their attendance is high. You provide many opportunities for pupils to take part in extra-curricular activities, take on leadership roles and contribute to their community. Pupils were keen to tell me how much they enjoy learning and being a part of their school family.

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

Willow Brook Primary School Reviews

Average Rating:

“Stop moaning”
"> I’ve just read the review dated 29th July 2017 by a parent of Willow Brook Primary. If you have any concerns you should be talking to the Headteacher and not moaning about it. When staff leave there will always be change, no matter where you work. The children’s education is important to all at the school and writing negative comments does not help.
“Overall fairly good, but with some concerns...”
"> My son continues to enjoy many aspects of his time at Willow Brook Primary School, Keyworth. However, it is a real shame that his lovely and wonderfully communicative headteacher left a few months ago (as did the Year 3 teacher, whose post has been filled by supply for the last few months), amongst other staffing issues. The new headteacher (since around February 2017) has been at the school for many years as a teacher, but, in fairness, her manner and communication with parents/pupils is not like that of the previous headteacher. Overall, the teachers are fairly good at Willow Brook Primary School (as per the most recent Ofsted report from a couple of years ago) but in my opinion issues with recent staffing changes might become clearer with time.
