DRAMA AT WHITGIFT

Big School, Whitgift's main assembly hall, converts to a tiered-seating theatre for major productions; there is also a separate drama studio and Concert Hall which can be used for smaller productions. Plays are sometimes performed outdoors in the Founder's Garden.

Performance opportunities exist for boys of all ages, with some productions confined to particular year groups. Auditions are always completely open, which renders performance drama accessible to everyone.

The school has worked in partnership with film companies and provided opportunities for boys to audition for upcoming films.

In the summer term of 2016, the Lower School presented an ‘evening full of swashbuckling, skulduggery and derring-do’ with Stuart Paterson’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island (above). Director, Mr Hugh Trimble, said: “I’m immensely proud of our talented and dedicated cast. The boys have given a huge amount of their time and energy to this production, and have ended up with a thrilling show which I really believe shows school drama at its very best.”

RECORD BREAKING IB RESULTS

We are very proud of Whitgift's Upper Sixth Form International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma graduates, whose results in July broke many School records.

There was an average point score of 41, which is the highest the School has ever known, and 2/3 of the cohort scored over 40 points. This puts them in the top 5% of students worldwide. Six of our students' results were in the top 1%, scoring 44 points.

Almost all of our boys are confirmed to be going on to study at top Russell Group universities.

Mr Paul Dinnen, outgoing Head of International Baccalaureate celebrated, saying  'the joy of seeing so many smiling faces whose university ambitions have now been fulfilled made this a special day for all of us. 'He also commented that, ‘Impressive as they are, the outcome of the IB Diploma can never be summed up in mere numbers. The strength and depth of character which the programme cultivates will see these young men succeed far beyond their time at university.'

"INSPIRATIONAL GROUNDS" ISI REPORT

Whitgift enjoys an exceptionally beautiful, 45-acre, parkland site. It offers immediate access to first-class sports fields and all-weather facilities, together with opportunities for drama, scientific studies and relaxation, while retaining the appearance of a country estate; the School buildings are surrounded by a wonderful range of gardens, quadrangles and wildlife areas.

'The inspirational grounds and gardens have several wildlife areas and enclosed spaces which foster calmness, peace and an opportunity to appreciate a sense of place and self-awareness' ISI Inspection Report
