The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Pupils are happy and safe in this school. They value the relationships they have with adults. Pupils’ attitudes to learning are generally positive. The school has an inclusive and respectful culture, with a strong community feel. Staff encourage the celebration of diversity and difference. This is reflected, for example, in the books that pupils read. Leaders have introduced new strategies to improve behaviour. Because of this, staff and pupils say that behaviour is better in classrooms and around the school. Pupils are clear about the rules and think they are fairly used. Leaders create a nurturing environment. Staff provide support for those who need it. Pupils appreciate this support. They feel that bullying is almost always dealt with well. It is not tolerated by teachers. Leaders have high expectations of pupils. However, this is not always enacted by teachers. Pupils enjoy their learning, but they sometimes cannot clearly remember what they have recently been taught. Pupils say that they have a chance to express their viewpoints in lessons and are respectfully listened to. Leaders have created opportunities for praise and reward and a clear culture of reading. The class that wins the ‘reading cup’ in the weekly assembly have rewards, for example an ‘own clothes’ day.

“A great choice”

unlock
"> My children both attend the Crescent, they love the school and go there every morning with a big smile on their faces and, in my opinion, this is the most important thing. I like the support they are given, the encouragement and the progresses they make every day. There will always be something that can be done better or in a different way but I trust the staff, the teachers and the Head in always doing their best and taking decisions having in mind only their pupils.
“Great Prospects”

unlock
"> This is an exceptional school that kept their promise to me and my child, which was to ensure that children will be encouraged to succeed whether they are over or under achievers. My child is an over achiever and they have continued to support my child to attain a high level of education.
“Amazing school with caring staff”

unlock
"> My children have received so much support from this amazing school. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff there. You should all be proud as you always go the extra mile. As for policies, schools need these to run efficiently and to be fair to all.
“Top notch education”

unlock
"> My son has been there since it opened and has received a top notch education so far and he loves it. Spelling homework has been proven to have limited benefits for young children and it would certainly turn my child off the idea of home learning in general, so I'm happy about their homework policy. They massively encourage and support home reading. They can be a bit zero tolerance with parents at times; one minute late for sports day and you're not allowed in.
“Review The Cresent Primary Croydon”

unlock
"> This school does not reflect opinions or ideas or perspectives of the parent. In my experience, they are policy orientated and do not bend or are flexible towards parents. My child does not get homework such as spellings, she has yet to start swimming which I would like her to participate in with the school, and don't ever forget to top up parent pay as your child will not be fed.
