School Description

This is an average sized secondary school. Most students are White British. The proportion of students from minority ethnic backgrounds is low. The proportion of students that are disabled or have special educational needs, including those supported through school action, school action plus or a statement of special educational needs is above average. The proportion of students eligible for the pupil premium (government funding to support disadvantaged students) is above average. A higher than average proportion of students join or leave the school part-way through their education. The school has a support unit on site, ‘The Link’ which is used to provide initial support for students joining the school mid-way through the year, and to provide intensive support for a small minority of students at risk of exclusion. Alternative arrangements are made to educate a minority of students off the school site, mostly at the ‘Crossover’ centre, managed by the school which aims to re-engage students with high absence rates or prolonged illness back into learning. Two students have one-day a week work placements arranged for them. The school does not meet the government’s floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress. The local authority has issued the governing body with a warning notice in relation to standards and leadership of the school.
