“Really Fabulous School!”
"> I’m a current parent and my two children joined Stonar in 2015. I hope I can give a useful overview of Stonar in my comments below… The school develops each child and encourages them to achieve their full potential as well as offering them immense opportunities to develop as individuals. My two daughters have had opportunites to visit other NACE schools (in Spain and Mallorca) with sport, academic and choir groups. Stonar offers them the opportunity to ride every day at the school equestrian centre. The equestrian staff are highly knowledgeable and the yard is a safe environment for the pupils to learn and develop their equine skills. School activities they have particularly enjoyed are public speaking, DofE expeditions, explorer scouts, chamber choir (many performance opportunities), riding competitions, school play, debating the EU referendum & voting, a riding holiday in Devon, inter-house singing & dancing (cherographed and organised by the pupils themselves), annual music concerts, drama festivals, swimming galas and a variety of equestrian events throughout the year. Dr Divall is an excellent and inspiring headteacher. She holds informal weekly drop-in sessions where parents can just pop along for a chat. She always attends both school-based and external events and is very supportive of the pupils in all their activities. Both my husband and I are educators and we are delighted with the standard of teaching and the sheer quality that Stonar offers. The academic staff are incredibly supportive and inspiring. The equestrian staff are outstanding. The boarding houses offer excellent pastoral care. Part of the reason my two daughters love boarding so much is the caring atmosphere that has been created by the staff members in the boarding houses. They have a lot of fun boarding too (baking cakes, playing games, talent shows, movie & pizza nights!). All the pupils are very supportive and encouraging of each other. There is a parent group, ‘Friends of Stonar,’ that meets once a month and also organises events for parents. The school is very welcoming and so all families would feel very comfortable in the Stonar environment.
