School Description

St Michael’s Church Of England High School is much smaller than the average-sized secondary school.. The overwhelming majority of students are of White British heritage. The proportion of students for whom the school receives the pupil premium is above average. The pupil premium is additional funding for students eligible for free school meals, children from service families and those children that are looked after by the local authority. The proportion of students supported at school action is lower than the national average. However, the proportion that is supported at school action plus, or with a statement of special educational needs is higher than the national figure. The school has a specialist resource centre for students with dyslexia and there are currently 11 students on roll. The school makes provision for a very small number of students to undertake placements at IMPACT (a local authority provision), and Everton Free School in Key Stage 4. Since the previous inspection, a new headteacher took up post in September 2011 and two deputy headteachers have been appointed. Since the previous inspection, the school closed its sixth form as a result of falling numbers. However, the sixth form was re-opened this academic year, in collaboration with South Sefton Sixth Form College. The leadership of the sixth form was initially covered by the deputy headteacher. A head of sixth form has been appointed, and took up post at the beginning of the current term. The school meets the government’s current floor standard, which is the minimum level expected for students’ attainment and progress.
