School Description

This is an average-sized primary school. About one in five pupils are known to be eligible for the pupil premium (additional government funding which supports pupils eligible for free school meals and those looked after by the local authority). This is average. One in 16 pupils is disabled or has special educational needs. This is below average. Just over a half of pupils belong to ethnic groups other than White British. About one in five are from Black African or Black Caribbean families. About a quarter of pupils do not have English as their first langauge. The school meets the government’s floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics. There is a wide range of before- and after-school clubs which are managed by external providers. They were not looked at as part of this inspection. Children attend Reception on a full-time basis and Nursery children attend on a part-time basis. The Early Years Foundation Stage is recognized as exceptional provision by the local authority. The headteacher is providing training to schools in the computing part of the new National Curriculum. The school has also provided training to schools in increasing the proportion of pupils achieving Level 6 in reading. Just over three years ago, following the resignation of the then headteacher, the current headteacher and deputy headteacher took up their posts. The school appointed two teachers who are new to the profession in September 2014.

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

See Pupil heat maps FAQs for more information about the source of pupil heat map data.

St Margaret's Lee CofE Primary School Reviews

Average Rating:

BY PARENTS, FOR PARENTS

“Highly Recommended school”
AUTHOR:
"> This school is amazing. The children are well taught with every staff member genuinely interested in pupils achieving to their individual potential. It is an inclusive school and encourages parents to get involved with lots of Social and fundraising activities during school hours and in the evenings. One of my children has left and the other is in Y4 and both have really enjoyed their time at this school. Any minor issues tend to have been resolved before the children tell you and teachers are available at Drop off and Pick up to chat to or can arrange a meeting. Leadership team are fun but ensure good behaviour and attendance throughout the school is adhered to.
