ST HELEN'S SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

11+ Entry

Entry scholarships to Senior School, worth up to 50% of tuition fees, are awarded annually at 11+. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of academic ability and are not related to family financial circumstances.

At 11+ entry, there is no additional scholarship exam: scholarships are awarded on the basis of the entry exam and interview.

In addition to academic scholarships, the following scholarships and exhibitions are available at 11+. An application form for these scholarships will be sent to all registered candidates shortly after the registration deadline.

Art Scholarship

The Art Scholarship offers a £1,000 reduction on tuition fees per annum and is awarded on the basis of assessments held shortly after the Entrance Examination. Candidates will be invited to submit a portfolio of artwork on or before the day of the Entrance Examination. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to sit a 45 minute practical assessment, which will be a still life drawing from observation, and interview.

Music Scholarship and Exhibitions

At Year 7 entry a Music Scholarship, worth up to a maximum of 25% of tuition fees, plus free tuition on one instrument, is offered to an academically able candidate who is also an accomplished musician. Candidates for the Music Scholarship must be at least Grade 5 or above on one instrument. To apply for the Scholarship, candidates who are shortlisted for an entrance interview will be invited to attend an audition shortly after the Entrance Examination where they will be asked to play two pieces on their first instrument (which can include voice), with the option of playing one piece on a second instrument, and to do some sight reading and aural tests. Evidence of a strong commitment to extra-curricular music at school is essential. A number of Music Exhibitions (free tuition on one instrument) may also be awarded.

Sport Scholarship

The 11+ Sport Scholarship offers a £1,000 reduction on tuition fees per annumb and is available to recognise sporting achievement and potential. Candidates will be invited to submit a portfolio of evidence of their sporting achievements, including a reference from their current Head of PE/Class, on or before the day of the Entrance Examination. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to attend a practical assessment day shortly after the Entrance Examination. In order to be considered for this award it is expected that the candidate has strength in a sport that is offered at St. Helen’s. Examples of such sports are netball, lacrosse, swimming, badminton or gymnastics.
