This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

Saxmundham Free School is dedicated to the development of a safe, vibrant, successful and student-centred place of learning; we believe that our young people are capable of truly fantastic things and we expect them to strive to achieve their very best whilst studying with us. Working with parents, carers and the local community we look to provide a range of opportunities for our students to enjoy their learning and excel. Our students tell us that they value the way lessons are delivered at Saxmundham and the strong relationships that exist in school between students and staff. This is only possible because of our small size. We offer a traditional curriculum that enables our students to flourish academically and lay the foundations for their successful progression into post-16 learning. Our strong pastoral support system and wide range of enrichment activities help our students to develop and contribute positively to the local community. As an inclusive school we celebrate the successes of all of our students together as a community and we have aspirations that everyone will make progress over and above the national average.

SET Saxmundham School maintains Good Ofsted with Outstanding features

SET Saxmundham School is celebrating after maintaining its ‘Good’ result from Ofsted, following a recent inspection on 20 February 2018. It has maintained the ‘Good’ grade it achieved in 2014 and has again been recognised for Outstanding qualities in ‘Leadership and Management’, and ‘Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare’.

Ofsted inspectors praised SET Saxmundham School for its high aspirations and expectations of students and staff. GCSE results have risen significantly with many students achieving top 7, 8 and 9 grades (equivalent to A, A* or higher) in August 2017.

The report says: “All groups of pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities, made good progress.” Year 11 students achieved half a GCSE grade higher overall than other students nationally. Inspectors praised the ‘exceptional’ progress students have made in GCSE English.

The Ofsted report says: ‘high-quality pastoral care, founded on the trust’s ‘6 c’s to success of cooperation, commitment, confidence, community, challenge and celebration, underpins much of the school’s work.’ and praises the ‘good sense of community, where everyone knows you, and staff and pupils are friendly.” Parents also praised the School and said they would recommend it to others.

David Lees, Headteacher at SET Saxmundham School, said: “Our Good Ofsted report is testament to the hard work and commitment of our teachers and staff for providing a purposeful and stimulating environment for our students to learn and thrive. We are proud to maintain our Good Ofsted and we aim to build on our achievements going forward.”
