The summer is a period of intense anticipation of what lies ahead for school leavers and today, Royal High School Bath, GDST (RHB) A Level students join teenagers around the globe to learn their results and destinations for the next stage of their lives.
This year, an impressive 48% of results secured by Royal High School Bath students were at top A*/A grades with 10 A level students gaining all their results at this high level. Success came across the board and we are particularly pleased for those 5 students who achieved their places to study Medicine, and 3 who are heading to the University of Oxford to read Geography, English and Medicine. STEM subjects remain popular with Computer Science flourishing and all candidates achieving an A* or A grade.
These results add to the excellent achievements of our IB Diploma Programme students, published in July. The IB is marked out of 45 with girls studying six subjects each of which can be awarded a maximum of seven points with an additional three points for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Once again, the RHB IB cohort achieved an impressive 36-point average which is significantly above the global average of 30 points with 5 students scoring more than 40 points, above the standard level for a place at the University of Oxford. RHB is the only school in Bath to offer this choice of IB or A Level pathway at Sixth Form.
Mr Hadrian Briggs, Acting Head, said: “It has been an honour to see this cohort develop academically to receive such a fantastic set of results. The envelopes opened by our students today tell the story of their academic curiosity, hard work and dedication during their time at our inspirational Sixth Form. I would also like to congratulate our students for embracing so many wider opportunities to contribute to our school and community which have brought indispensable skills for life. We wish them every success and happiness as they leave Royal High and strike out into the future with the poise and confidence.”
Congratulations to Royal High School Bath’s Year 11 GCSE cohort who have learned just how well their hard work and dedication to their studies has paid off. This sparky cohort of students have even managed to beat last year’s excellent results and can go on to study for A Levels or the school’s International Baccalaureate pathways with confidence.
The top mark of Grade 9 was achieved by 26% of students, with 67% Grades 7-9 and 91% Grades 5-9. 22 students achieved grades 9-7 across all of their results and 6 students kept the bar high and only achieved grades 8 and 9.
A significant number of students gained further success from the additional qualifications they have chosen to take as a result of their creativity and academic curiosity – a hallmark of the Royal High Sixth Form. Pupils have taken additional GCSE level awards including Further Maths, Level 2 EPQs, the Silver Arts Award and the New College of the Humanities Philosophy Certificate. Students from the School’s Aspire Group submitted their Level 2 EPQs on an eclectic range of subjects including; ‘The similarities between Ancient Greek and modern medicine’, ‘The effect of your online presence on your career’ and ‘Achievements of unsung black women in the Victorian era’. All these students gained an A* or A grade in this qualification which is highly regarded in preparing students for university study.
Acting Head, Mr Hadrian Briggs, said “These results are testament to an exceptional year group who have responded to Senior School life with determination and good humour. I am extremely proud of the girls’ achievements in both the academic arena and in their contributions to the wider life of the school.
These students are fully committed to our extra-curricular programmes in sport, music and the performing arts as well as challenging themselves through outdoor education opportunities such as Duke of Edinburgh and the Ten Tors. They have followed their intellectual and wider passions and interests to build very strong foundations on which to build their IB and A Level studies.”
We're proud to be part of the Girls’ Day School Trust family of 25 schools across England and Wales. It's a modern, vibrant organisation where the teaching and wellbeing of all its pupils takes absolute priority.
The academic results it achieves are among the best in the country, and the young women leaving its schools for university and the world beyond have the confidence, courage, composure and commitment to thrive wherever their futures take them.
Royal High School Bath is an independent all girls’ school and as such all of our lessons have been tailored to the way that girls learn. We have a long history of specialising in girls’ education and are proud of our reputation as a kind, supportive and academically excellent school.
