The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

Source: All attending pupils National School Census Data, ONS

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

The school values weave throughout the life of the school, its staff and pupils. The three threads of ‘joy, kindness and resilience’ are represented symbolically by a star, bucket and apple. The stories told about these characteristics enable pupils to develop a robust understanding of them. The whole school understand and own the school values. As one pupil typically stated: ‘Our values are the most important thing because that is what makes our school ours, and what makes us, us.’ The school supports pupils to ‘be the best we can be’. Pupils know that ‘trying your hardest is fine.’ The school takes every opportunity to provide meaningful and varied experiences for its pupils. It is particularly ambitious for those who are disadvantaged including those with a special educational need and/or disability (SEND). A wide range of clubs broadens pupils horizons. There are many opportunities for pupils to make a difference in their school. Eco, ethos and school councillors meet regularly to improve the school. There is a calm yet excited feel around the school. Pupils enjoy attending regularly. Relationships between pupils and staff are highly respectful. Motivated pupils engage well in lessons. Bullying is not tolerated.

“Good school with friendly, community focused atmosphere”

unlock
"> Really nice school with a friendly atmosphere. Teachers are all very kind and seem genuinely concerned for the well-being of the children in their care. There is an obvious effort to promote values such as kindness and community focus. Having moved from a large multicultural city to Oundle I was concerned that my child of dual heritage would feel like an outsider but there is more diversity than the description implies (quite a few Americans, Easter. Europeans and my child is not the only person of colour in his class). The school consciously promotes inclusion and makes efforts to learn about faiths other than Christianity. The teachers seem generally interested in the well-being of the pupils and have offered yoga and mindfulness as core parts of teaching. The standard of teaching seems good and there is access to a good range of extra curricular activities including a variety of musical instruments, Chinese and coding. If I was going to offer any criticism, I believe there is too much homework for small children and there should be more emphasis upon play although I’m not sure that’s driven entirely by the school. Overall it’s a lovely school with a high standard of teaching that promotes the well being of its pupils. My child is very happy here and I’m not sure there is anything they could do to improve on what they offer.
