This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the Pupil Level Annual School Census collected by the Welsh Government. The data tells us where pupils lived at the time of the last Pupil Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Northop Hall Primary School is a happy and nurturing learning community. The headteacher and staff take great care of their pupils. Most pupils behave well, are well mannered and respectful of others. From a young age, pupils are outgoing and very much enjoy chatting with adults. Most talk happily about their learning and the activities that motivate and challenge them in school, particularly in mathematics, where many make rapid progress. Because of the way the school has developed its approach to teaching and learning, by the time pupils reach Year 6, they recognise the value of working independently and persevering to achieve. They are proud of their ability to solve problems, support one another and take responsibility for their learning. Most pupils, including those with additional learning needs, achieve well. The headteacher and governing body provide strong leadership for the school. They work together effectively, providing support and guidance to staff and parents through a time of great change and challenge in schools. There is a strong culture of trust within the school community. Staff know that leaders and governors make decisions in the best interests of pupils and parents have confidence in what the school is trying to achieve. Everyone is encouraged to try new ideas, but also expected to reflect on their progress. This means that the school keeps a clear focus on how well pupils are doing and whether the changes they are making are the right ones. The current leadership team is fairly new, but has already identified important areas of the school’s work that it wants to improve, including provision to develop pupils’ skills in Welsh and English, how pupils apply their numeracy skills in their topic work, and ensuring that all pupils know their next steps in learning. The inspection team identified one issue relating to the security of the school site. Leaders and governors are working with the local authority to address this.

Average Parent Rating

“10/10 school”

I went to this school and it was very good. All the teachers were lovely and so were the children. You will get a very good education at this school. The teachers will always sit and listen to you if you need them. I just transferred from this school so I could go to high school but if f i could go back, I would.
