This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

“Happy parent and happy kids”

unlock
"> Northolmes has provided my children with a great foundation in life. The teaching staff are very caring and keen to develop the whole child not just get good results on paper. They do their best to identify areas where a child needs extra learning and support, and they follow through with giving whatever help is required. The recent changes in the running of the school have made further improvements, and the children are experiencing even more enriched learning opportunities. The mixed year group classes work well and really helped my "Summer boy" boost his confidence as he wasn't always the youngest in his class. The school has brought out the best in my children without pushing them too hard, which, in my opinion, is not necessary at this age.
“I would recommend this school to other parents”

unlock
"> I believe 'small is beautiful': Northolmes is a small, supportive school where my children flourished. They had the opportunity to get involved in lots of lunchtime and after school activities, including drama, dance, netball, hockey, music and the school newspaper. In my experience, the teachers are passionate about meeting the needs of all the children. The extra maths lessons provided by their amazingly dedicated and hardworking Year 6 teacher enabled my children to achieve Level 6 in their maths SATs paper.
“Happy child and good results”

unlock
"> My child spent 4 years at Northolmes Jr and grew in confidence and did very well academically leaving with level 5 across the board. Northolmes staff are always friendly and helpful and are willing to speak with you if you have concerns. The school offers many extra curricular activities and focuses on the child as a whole not just the academia.
“Overall I am pleased.”

unlock
"> Both my children have done well at the school in terms of education and well being. The mixed year classes are managed extremely effectively and offer the children a more flexible approach to their learning as well as teaching the older children the importance of helping those younger than themselves. The teaching staff and governors have worked hard to improve the school over the last year and this is evident in many areas. The children maintain close friendships, seem happy and are polite. The after school clubs are numerous and varied and led enthusiastically by the staff. There are a small number of male teaching staff which is a most welcome influence I feel. Overall I am happy with the scool and would recommend it.
“Happy child”

unlock
"> I am very happy with the supportive teachers and support staff. There are lots of extra curricular activities on offer and a fantastic morality. My child is very happy here.
“"Great for the whole child"”

unlock
"> The school offers great after-school clubs and encourages all children to take part in sports whatever their ability. They see the whole child, whether they excel at sport, music or academically. Communication is good but they do encourage independence so you don't always get that letter in your hand so do check your child's school bag!! The school is also very welcoming to parents and are very happy for you to get involved. My child is happy here and my eldest who left 2 years ago still wears her Leavers Hoodie!
“Recommendation from current parent”

unlock
"> Parents need to take into account recent changes at the school. Northolmes federated with its main feeder school, Littlehaven Infant, in September 2014 and now has a shared Headteacher (Miss White who was the Littlehaven Head) and a new shared Deputy. There's also now one Governing Body across the two schools. Considerable improvements have been made which aren't reflected in the data or Ofsted report from 2013. The school has a friendly and safe atmosphere, supportive teachers and support staff, a curriculum that is tailored to the age of the junior pupils, lots of extra-curricular and sporting opportunities and improved links with Littlehaven Infant School. My child is very happy here and I would recommend the school.
