North London Rudolf Steiner School forms part of a specialist Steiner Early Years Centre focusing on education for children aged from birth to seven years. The Centre has four parent and child groups, a playgroup for children aged between two and a half and three and a half years, which is reported on separately, and two kindergarten classes for children from three to rising seven. These classes both have the same full age range. The school was established in 1985 and currently seventeen children aged between four and six attend for four hours each day, whilst a further 24 attend for four days a week. The school is held in part of Campsbourne Baptist Church in Hornsey, North London. It follows the Steiner Waldorf curriculum and is run by a College of Teachers supported by trustees. An administrator is responsible for the daily running of the school. It aims to ‘create a creative, safe and homely environment in which the children can develop socially, emotionally and physically’. At the time of this inspection, the provider has been granted exemption by the Secretary of State from parts of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These parts were excluded from this inspection.
