This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

The curriculum is ambitious, engaging and accessible to all pupils. It sets out precisely what pupils need to know and the order in which they should learn it. Teachers have good subject knowledge and model new learning clearly. They check pupils’ understanding and address misconceptions promptly. However, checks on how well pupils retain and retrieve prior learning are less well established. Where this is the case, some pupils do not learn as well as they could. Staff check pupils’ reading ability when they join Year 3 and provide appropriate support where needed. Pupils read daily and have access to a wide range of texts and authors. Early readers, and those who struggle, benefit from additional phonics sessions and wellconsidered effective strategies. This develops the skills they need to become confident and fluent readers. There are effective systems in place to identify pupils with SEND. The school works in partnership with parents and external professionals to ensure that pupils with SEND receive appropriate support to meet their individual needs. Expectations are high as all pupils follow the school’s curriculum. Pupils’ conduct and their attitudes to learning are positive. They listen carefully, work collaboratively and respond appropriately to instructions. This ensures that classrooms are calm and purposeful spaces and learning is free from disruption. Most pupils attend regularly. However, too many disadvantaged pupils are persistently absent. This directly affects their academic achievement particularly. These pupils attain below their peers and do not reach the standards they should. The school has developed an exceptional extra-curricular programme, which offers pupils a wide and rich set of experiences. An abundance of clubs, educational visits and visitors extend and enrich pupils’ learning. Pupils’ leadership skills develop through roles such as ‘learning detectives’ and as play leaders. There is a strong focus on pupils’ mental well-being to ensure they blossom in all areas of their school life. Caring for the school animals helps pupils to feel calm and reduces their anxiety. Pupils learn about others from different faiths and backgrounds. They have a detailed understanding of fundamental British values and appreciate the importance of equality. These values are strongly embedded within the school. British culture is celebrated through events, including a celebratory lunch on Victory in Europe Day. As a result, pupils are well prepared for their future lives. When needed, the school goes above and beyond to provide support for pupils and their families. Parents are full of praise for the school. They are particularly grateful for what most describe as ‘exceptional management’ and handling of a recent incident when pupils were stranded in Barcelona. Effective and swift action taken ensured that every pupil returned safely and without any upset. The school is led and managed well. The governing body has a clear oversight of the school’s strategic direction. Members know the school well. They provide the right balance of challenge and support. Staff appreciate the school’s consideration of their workload and well-being.
