The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. Following your appointment in September 2016, you have determinedly focused on developing the quality of leadership in the school. To achieve this, you have made significant changes at senior and middle leadership levels, and to governance. As a consequence of this lack of complacency, you are now building a more aspirational culture in the school. Supported by governors, you have a clear vision for the school. You are determined that your pupils will achieve as highly as possible. To bring this about, you acted decisively to address those areas which required attention. Principally, you have restructured the senior leadership team so that you have the right people in the right roles. You are now able to hold leaders to account. Additionally, you and the chair of governors have led the reconstitution of the governing body so that governors have the necessary skills to support and challenge school leaders. As a result, leaders have an honest and accurate understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for development. You have also acted quickly to begin the further development of middle leadership as a powerful engine for school improvement. You have implemented a new system for the gathering and analysis of information about how well pupils are doing. This enables leaders to identify the actions they must take to help pupils who fall behind to catch up. This more consistent approach is enabling you to effectively hold middle leaders to account.

“King Edwards school”

"> The school is very good. But I would like the school to focus on helping settling new people when they arrive. Iit took my daughter 2 months. There could be more emphasis on transition support.
“Great school”

"> My child is now in Y10. He has been happy and settled at this school from day 1. A few small brushes with bullying which were stamped out immediately by the school. He is perfectly accepted for the clothes he wears and for having long hair, and has friends from a diverse group. He will hopefully stay here for 6th Form before going to university. Very glad he was accepted here as he would have been miserable at his catchment school.
“Great School, inside and out”

unlock
"> The school is lovely, and so too are the pupils. In my experience as a parent, they are all well mannered and happy to help a visitor. The teachers of the school are also experts in their subjects and care a great deal about the pupils themselves.
“Informed Decisions”

unlock
"> Whilst I have been critical of King Edward V11 School, at least they made an effort, and it is hoped that the conclusions will help the school move forward. However, the same can not be said of Ofsted, whose behaviour, in my opinion, has been obstructive and unhelpful throughout, which means that parents cannot always trust the Ofsted reports. Parents must therefore be skeptical about the claims of excellence of schools, and always ask for supporting evidence, or otherwise take those claims with a good pinch of salt.
