Highfields School Parent Reviews

“Amazing school”

Plenty of choices for after school clubs. Large variety of enrichment activities. Every child is unique. Teachers assessed every child and tailored study approach/ level for each child. They helped my boy a lot. He had huge improvement and gradually catched up with his peers. Highfields feels like a big family. All of the teachers, supporting staffs and parents are closely working together to provide the very best education and school life for the children. They also have excellent ISI report in 2019. My second child will be joining Highfields very soon.
“A truly great independent primary school”

No school can please every parent so a couple of bad reviews are to be expected I suppose but I find it saddening because this is a fantastic school. It’s true that the parents really do strive to get on with each other for the greater good and there is a very active and hard-working friends of the school committee, I see these as extremely positive attributes of the school. Our child has been at the school for several years and the dynamic and talented headteacher and staff have provided our child and us as parents with a wealth of tailored support and advice, as for comments above re Ofsted, whilst this information can be useful, I visited over 20 state and independent primary schools in the area and found that schools are often dramatically different to the picture painted in Ofsted reports issued only a year or two previously and that the only way to get a proper feel and understanding of how a school works and what it achieves is to visit it and have a good look around, ask all the questions that you have, and talk to some parents if possible. Regarding the National curriculum, most teachers would dump that without a second thought! The school follows the Cambridge curriculum and most children do seem to get their secondary school of choice. A child recently moving to Highfields from another independent primary school nearby had to catch up with their Highfieds peers who were were further ahead in their education for example. The school’s active enrichment programme is worth a mention as the children access a huge variety of activities from street dancing to sailing as well as music and speech and drama which is great for their confidence, fitness and their health generally. Another strength of the school is the tremendous camaraderie it promotes amongst the children and the manners and discipline it instils in them. Ultimately, schools work together with parents to support children the best they can and this can sometimes be a difficult relationship but I do believe that Highfields does it’s very best to honour the children that are lucky enough to go there.
