This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

This is a smaller than average-sized primary school. The school is becoming more popular and its roll is beginning to rise. There is a waiting list of pupils for some year groups. Six new teachers were appointed in September 2014. The school has became part of the South Farnham Educational Trust on February 1 st 2015. It is now known as Highfield South Farnham School. The school meets government floor standards, which set minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in English and mathematics. Children in the Reception class attend full time. Those in the nursery attend for either a morning or an afternoon session. The proportion of pupils who receive additional support from pupil premium funding, additional funding provided by the government for pupils eligible for free school meals or in local authority care, is above the national average. The proportion of pupils who are disabled or who have special educational needs in the school is above that found nationally. The executive headteacher is the headteacher of the South Farnham teaching school alliance and the head of school is the director of the teaching school. Five members of staff are specialist leaders of education.

“A happy welcoming school with great teaching”

"> My children have only been at the school since September (in nursery and year 3) after we moved to the area. I couldn't be happier with how easily they have settled and how welcoming the school has been. They have both made friends easily and I feel their strengths are being encouraged. They are so happy to go to school each day and I hear so much about what my eldest is learning. Everything seems to be taught in an interesting and fun way and the teaching staff extremely passionate and approachable. The setting is lovely with the school on one level and all classrooms leading out onto the outdoor spaces. Grandparents have also commented on the friendliness of the school and the happiness of the children. There is clearly mutual respect between staff and pupils yet a feeling that any bad behaviour is certainly dealt with quickly and fairly. There is also a very active PTFA so overall I am very happy with our choice of school.
“Big move to Highfield South Farnham”

"> I moved from Spain after 20 years and was very nervous for my son starting school in the UK as he has only ever been taught in Spanish. I have found that Mr West the head teacher has been very understanding to the extra attention Connor would need and very approachable with any discussions needed. He is enjoying school and always look forward to going. All the staff and teachers have always been really friendly to us and have felt welcomed. I would also like to add since joining PTFA I am pleased with all the hard work that goes into our PTFA and the results we get.

"> My daughter has attended this school for the last four years , she is growing up to be a happy, confident young lady who enjoys all aspects of school life, which includes after school clubs. She even comes home excited when she attends lunchtime maths lessons, not because she has to, but because she wants to! Mrs James, her year four teacher, understands my daughter and encourages her to excel in all she does. I also help out with the PTFA which I enjoy very much, and they have a great team not just in raising money for the school but in encouraging the child-teacher-family bond, which is going from strength to strength.
“A perfect primary”

"> We moved into the area and couldn't have been more thrilled with this school. The children settled in so quickly as the school has such a warm and friendly atmosphere. It's lovely that they can't wait to go in each day and feel completely involved and very proud of their school. My daughter had previously been in a 2 form entry school and she loves the relative peacefulness of a single form entry. It's also great that all the children across the year groups know each others names and the older ones look out for the younger kids too. The children all show respect to their teachers and head and the zero tolerance policy on bad behaviour means they know where they stand. I love that the head makes an effort to visit every class each day so knows what's going on with the teaching and knows all the children individually. He's also at the gates morning and afternoon so parents can speak to him and ask any questions. The outside area is also a massive bonus compared to our previous school as it has so much space for the pupils to run and play and they aren't tripping over each other. I wish I had had a woodland area in my primary! The speed of learning also seems fast as well as fun and the children are all given work to stretch them but in an interesting and accessable way. I can't believe the progress they have made since starting and there is specialised help for any weak areas so no one is left behind. There is a brilliant child-teacher ratio. Overall I could think of a more wonderful place for my children to spend their primary years and feel lucky they will flourish and achieve their very best in such a safe, family-like environment.
