This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

This is a school where pupils feel safe and happy. Pupils are friendly to each other and to visitors. Pupils told me that there is no bullying. If pupils are worried about any unkind behaviour, they know that adults will help them. Leaders want to give them lots of memorable experiences through their ‘Community Curriculum’. This includes outdoor learning in their wildlife garden. Teachers work hard to make the lessons interesting. Pupils enjoy lessons and told me that learning is fun. Teachers focus on ‘doing’ rather than just listening. There is a close community feel to this school. This is in part because of the extensive support from all staff for pupils and families. As well as high academic standards, many parents and carers recognise how special Heathbrook is for their child. Pupils behave well around the school, in class and in the playground. They listen carefully to the adults. Pupils are keen to give their opinions in class discussions. At playtimes, they enjoy the organised activities in the playground. Pupils play well together.

“Fantastic Clapham Primary”

unlock
"> Wonderful school with excellent teaching staff and bags of space. We spent, like most parents, an inordinate amount of time agonising over schools, whether to go private or state and if state which school. In the end we whittled it down to Heathbrook or a private option as none of the other Clapham primaries seemed to perform to the same standard and in the end we choose Heathbrook after meeting the wonderful reception team. Our daughter is excelling in this school and having spoken to other parents a common theme is that our children are engaged and inspired to learn. The behaviour of the children seems excellent and the reception team are a good mix of gentle kind staff and brilliant teachers who promote responsibility, manners and good behaviour. Having a designated sports teacher is a luxury and the nature garden where they have outdoor learning sessions is brilliant. The headteacher is very switched on and great with the parents, but equally fantastic with the children and the head of early years is brilliant too.
“A first choice! Amazing school!”

"> Amazing school, we could not expect more for our son and can’t wait to get the second one in too. Wonderful and big space, indoor and outdoor, a dedicated team for our kids every day, an impressive curriculum and impressive results as well. Heathbrook is a leader in terms of learning about the nature and has got a big garden to help pupils to learn about this topic and to get their hands on gardening and preserving the biodiversity. By looking and listening the pupils, you can immediately detect the respectful values taught in Heathbrook. They are confident, respectful of the others, communicate really well. Highly recommended!
“Worth Going The Extra Mile!”

unlock
"> The first time I stepped inside Heathbrook I knew it was the school for my daughter. The environment is so stimulating (the boat in the playground, murals on the walls, an expansive nature garden, music room and art studio, children’s ideas celebrated throughout the hallways and classrooms..). More importantly though, and what impressed me the most, was the Head sharing his passion for, and commitment to, providing creative opportunities for learning (through arts and links with cultural partners and trips to museums and galleries). Clearly the children achieve well at Heathbrook but it’s certainly not all about the tests at this school! I have worked in and supported teachers in numerous schools in Southwark, Lambeth and Wandsworth for over 20 years and though many schools have their own special qualities, there was no doubt in my mind that this school was a very rare find and one which would help my daughter thrive socially as well as stimulating her desire to learn. Given all of this, the decision to put Heathbrook down as our first choice should have been very simple, but we live three miles away and we both work. Travelling the extra distance everyday is something we had to consider very carefully. However, my daughter has now been at the school for a year now and every extra minute of travel is absolutely worth it for us. We couldn’t be happier. She comes home from school glowing and buoyant and is always excited to return to school the next morning. (Her reception teacher was fantastic.) She likes the journey as it gives her more time to tell us about the day! We feel so lucky to be able to send our daughter to Heathbrook, despite living so far away. Our son will start nursery at Heathbrook this year and we know he will be well cared for and nurtured too. It’s worth travelling when you find the right school!
“A celebration of each individual child”

unlock
"> I am so grateful to the person who, when I was researching schools, told me that “Heathbrook is all about the child, and not just about the building”. They couldn’t have been more correct. The child is valued above all. Each child is known by name by everyone at the school; each child’s particular needs are thoughtfully addressed, individual interests and passions are explored and nurtured to the full. Learning is made exciting and fun. It’s an incredibly warm and happy environment, with a really exciting energy behind it. The building itself and the facilities are also impressive. There are great art and music studios, and the school has numerous links to many creative organisations including the Southbank. The space is big for a London school (without being overwhelming), with excellent opportunities for outdoor learning in the expansive nature garden. After school care and activities are excellent and very broad ranging. In summary, the school is a welcoming, inclusive and friendly environment for learning.
“Wonderful school”

"> My kids started in Autumn 2017 (in nursery and reception) and, so far at least, we couldn't be happier with it. There's a really strong sense of community both within the school and the parent group. The environment, particularly outside, is exceptional and there's a huge amount going on. The staff - from the leadership team to those who run the breakfast and after school clubs - really know the children as individuals and there's a positive, happy, friendly atmosphere throughout. I'm delighted we found it.
“A brilliant school! Go and visit to see for yourself!”

"> Heahtbook is a brilliant school, with great staff, and a great head teacher. We really liked how creative the school has been in using it's space - both external and internal. As it used to be a secondary school, it has extensive facilities. There is a library, multiple halls, a large arts studio and a music room. Outside, the garden/forest speaks for itself, where the school runs forest lessons, and a large playground with plenty of kit. Crucially, for working parents, there is excellent wrap around care from 8am to 5.45pm. Finally, the academics of the school are excellent. But it's clear from looking around that there is an all-round education provided to the kids. Our daughter loves it! If you live in the area, and are looking for a school, go a visit - you will love it!
“A happy, thriving, productive school.”

"> For a long time Heathbrook was seen as a bit of a second choice school for parents who couldn't get into their number one. No more! Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of headmaster Ben Roberts and his dedicated team of staff, these days it's become a destination school. The reasons? Great teachers aside, it's a wonderfully nurturing, positive environment where children are encouraged to learn through pursuit of their loves and interests. The emphasis is on a rounded education: the school has its own woodland garden - which the kids love - bags of playground space (a feat in itself in an inner London school) and wonderful after school clubs featuring anything from streetdance to football. Ben knows every child by name. Heartily recommended.
