The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

This school is larger than the average-sized secondary school. The proportion of disabled students and those who have special educational needs supported through school action is lower than the national average. The proportion of students supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is also below average. The numbers of students eligible for the pupil premium is below average. The pupil premium is additional funding for students known to be eligible for free school meals and those in local authority care. The proportion of students who speak English as an additional language is above the national average. Well over half of the students are from minority ethnic backgrounds. This is double the national average. The academy is part of the Harris Federation that provides support for its schools including school improvement services. The academy also contributes to the support of other schools in the federation. The academy is a nationally designated teaching school. No students attend off-site provision although some students in the sixth form study courses at other academies in the federation as part of a shared provision offer. The school meets the current government floor standards which set the minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress.

“Not a good school”

unlock
"> I totally agree with the comment published in April 2016. As I have heard, the school used to be very good but I know by my own personal experience that every year it appears to be getting worse. I wish someone would have warned me before it was too late. I do not want to sound too negative but it is not a good school in my opinion. The majotity of students aren't proud to be part of the school and that says a lot.

"> My Daughter has just start September 2016. She has settled in the school very well and we find the teachers are very helpful. I like the fact the school has the pupils reading 10 mins every day in their tutor groups. The home work has been very interesting and she is really enjoying it.
“Very good school”

"> My son feels very secure and happy in the school. High recommended.
“Warning”

"> Careful what you wish for. I have a child currently at this school and, in my experience, there is more emphasis on behaviour and conformity than in embracing the child. No nurturing; just part of a herd. Really trying hard not to be negative but if you truly value your child's education this is NOT the school for them. There are relentless supply teachers. There is poor communications between the school and parents. The electronic Show My Homework is inadequate. The list goes on. There is a fight to get in every year but there are also a good few space in April the following year as pupils leave – just as my child now. They feed you a really good story of how brilliant they are. Don't believe the hype. Had to give it a rating so 1 star it is.
