The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

“Brilliant Elthm Hill 6th Form”

unlock
"> Eltham Hill School 6th Form is brilliant. The greatest positives is that the school is small and has staff who really care. The Teachers are meticulous, positive and on point in administering pastoral care for each student. My son's timetable is flexible in that free time is added or taken away based on his academic progress. Communication with us Parents is excellent. The teachers go the extra mile to ensure that we are kept updated with his progress or any changes that is necessary for his advancement. The staff work as a team in that communication form subject teachers to the absence office is excellent. Their efforts go towards assisting a pupil in achieving the best they can achieve. To us as Parents the efforts they invest in our child and other children and families we know is brilliant. They go to great lengths to introduce the pupils to Careers advice and choices. Assistance is given as and when required by Pupils. I would recommend this as a brilliant school.
“A-levels tutoring disappointing”

unlock
"> Beyond disappointing on A-level results - very telling how it is impossible to get the actual percentage & numbers on how many actual passes or A-B grades. English Language & literature really below par even amongst very able students. Teachers have zero accountability. I wish my daughter had attended another 6th form. It’s too small too cosy & the teachers are not able to get educated to that standard. Take note.
“Great standard of teaching”

unlock
"> Very good school, taking comprehensive schools to a higher, more valued level with their approach to teaching, discipline and diversity. I would focus more on students’ behaviour outside of school when wearing uniform and general etiquette.
“Impressed”

unlock
"> Wonderful school, especially since Mrs Podmore’s more sustainable and strict approach to the student’s behaviour in and outside of school. There is also a wide diversity of students which ensures that no-one feels secluded or out of place.
“Current year 8”

unlock
"> My daughter is now in Year 8 and I have nothing but praise for the school. The transitions process from primary school is managed really well. There is a huge selection of extra curriculum activities on offer, the trips offered for a state school are fantastic.
“Outstanding School”

unlock
"> My daughter joined Eltham Hill for Sixth Form in September 2016. She is incredibly happy at her new school, the teachers are very supportive, readily available to contact by email and respond quickly to any items raised and I feel she is treated as a valued individual. Sixth form management are effective and pro-active. Her subject teachers are mostly excellent, engaging and enthusiastic. The school is warm, modern and welcoming. The Head Teacher, although retiring this year, is a visible presence around the school and is very approachable and caring. I am so very pleased my daughter is studying at Eltham Hill. She settled quickly and I for one have nothing but praise for this school. Sixth formers are allowed certain privileges with regard to dress code and timetabling. She has already been given amazing extra curriculum activities and opportunities that will serve her well post-Sixth form studies. Contact with parents is good. Social media - Twitter, Facebook is current and relevant - an effort is not just made when OFSTED are due, unlike her old school when the website would hastily receive some last minute attention and additions.
“Not Outstanding”

unlock
"> Too much time spent disciplining the girls on school uniform, not enough time dealing with bullies or bad behaviour in class. Pupils get away with back chatting teachers, walking out of class as well as stealing. Teachers very slow with dealing with these issues and hardworking pupils suffer.
