The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

East London Science School Reviews

Average Rating:

“Highly recommend”
"> I have confidence in this schòol. I have a child with High Function Autism which was not diagnosed until they where already attending. The school has worked hard to help and make ajustments , even when there has been large gaps due to refusing to attend. My young child has thrived in there first year though they have found the work challenging , which is great to see them being academically stretched.
“I do not rate this school”
"> My son has been going to this school since it opened. In my opinion, it has steadily been getting worse. There has been a high turnover of teachers in the 5 years my son has been there. I find the school is too strict, and only the smartest kids get the teacher's full attention. I have grandchildren now and I would not send them here. I feel I've left it too late for my own son and I'm sure his GCSEs results will suffer because of the culture of this school. Our experience has been awful – if I could rate the school minus stars I would.
“Great School”
"> This is a wonderful school with lovely teachers and great academics. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area.
“Brilliant school”
"> Brilliant school! My son is thriving at this school and I would highly recommend it to anyone, especially if you have a child with genuine interest in the Sciences. The school's strength lies not just in the subject matter taught, but also the weekly school trips by each and every student all across London and beyond. We have found the teaching to be exceptional, with teachers who are above average in their skill sets (i.e. with M.A's), and often with special interest in their subjects. Truly impressive.
“Unhappy pupil”
"> My grandson is unhappy in this school. Science is his strength but I do not feel he is not being supported in these subjects despite his talents. In my experience, most of the staff seem to be supply teachers and permanent staff do not stay long enough to build any relationship with students.
