School Description

Devon Progressive School was originally registered in November 2011 as an independent children’s home providing education for two boys aged 5 to 11 years of age with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. The school opened in December 2011 but has not had students continually. It is located near Tavistock, Devon. There are currently two girls on roll aged 13 and 15 years, and both are looked-after children who are resident on the premises. They have been at the school for less than half a term. The students have had a very disrupted education and have not attended school for a considerable period of time. The school aims to ‘support young people with needs on their incredible journey towards independence and aspires to unlock each individual’s potential’. The school uses off-site provision for physical education and practical activities. The school had submitted a material change request to the Department for Education (DfE) to change the gender from boys only to both boys and girls and to change the age range from 5 to 11 years to 9 to 18 years of age as part of the inspection. This is the school’s first Ofsted inspection following its registration.
