Independent preparatory schools do not have to follow the National Curriculum or submit test results to the Department for Education so there is no individual school performance data or star rating.

Visit the school's website to learn more about their unique curriculum, policies on testing and common leaver destinations (a good indicator of pupil progress). See our About page for information on Choosing A Prep School.

Open Mornings

Open Mornings are designed to give you and your child a real sense of a ‘Day in the Life’ at Cumnor House. You will meet our Heads, our Pupils, our admissions team and have a tour of the school itself. We look forward to welcoming you.

Cumnor House School for Boys next Open Day is to be confirmed.

After your tour, the Headmistress, her Senior Team and other members of staff will be available for questions.

Personal Tours

A personal tour will also give you the opportunity to meet some of the children, speak to the teachers and get a general feel for school life here. Mr Daniel Cummings, Head of the Boys’ School, will be available to answer your questions and to discuss your child’s educational career in greater detail. Please click on the link below to book.

We have three private co-educational nurseries on two separate sites. Both Ofsted and ISI say Cumnor House Nursery is “outstanding”.

Our Boys’ Reception setting is located at 13 Woodcote Lane at the same premises as the Nursery in Purley.  This wonderful Early Years environment provides the boys with the benefit of a bespoke transitional year and the best possible start to their formal education before they move across to the main boys’ school campus at Pampisford Road when they are five (Year 1).

If you can’t make an open day, you are welcome to book a personal tour during the school year.  Our Heads make themselves available for personal tours each week, please ensure you contact us to confirm our next available date.

The admissions process is simple and designed to give assurance to you and your child that their educational ambitions are our focus too.  There is no catchment area and while many of our children are local, we do have children who travel in from as far as Canary Wharf, East Grinstead and Crawley.

You will be guided every step of the way by our experienced Admissions Team. Children are welcome to join us at any time during the school year and into any year group, if a place is available. Please do not hesitate to contact Admissions on 020 8660 3445 or complete the enquiry form by clicking the link below.

Meet the Head: Daniel Cummings

Mr Cummings joined Cumnor House in September 2017 after 4 successful years as Headmaster of The White House School, South Clapham. This is his second headship and he is excited by the opportunity of developing such a prestigious London Day School and Nursery. Mr Cummings is inspired by the challenge of ensuring every child has the opportunity to achieve at school, as well as providing a happy and nurturing learning environment for this to happen.

Who/what inspired you to become a teacher?

After an excellent experience teaching young disabled children to swim at a local SEN school in Sutton, as part of a six form citizenship programme at Wallington Grammar School, I knew that helping children and educating them was the right vocational choice for me.

What achievement are you most proud of as Head?

Every year I am immensely proud of the achievements of my students. Not just the amazing scholarships and offers that they so often achieve but the day to day improvements in their learning. When a child tells you they can now do something that they couldn't before, there is no finer moment for a Head.

What does a successful school look like to you?

A successful school is a happy school. A school where children look forward to attending each day, inspired and challenged by the learning presented to them. A successful school is one of excellent progress, no matter where the child's journey starts.

What is the most important quality you want every child to have when they leave your school? And why?

I believe every child should leave my school with confidence in their own ability and a life long love for learning. And why? Because with a positive attitude to learning and the confidence to approach any challenge or problem with a growth mindset will truly help prepare any pupil for a future yet imagined.

Please give 5 words to describe the ethos of your school.

Community, Kind, Positive, Endeavour, Courage.
