Meet the Head: Daniel Cummings

Mr Cummings joined Cumnor House in September 2017 after 4 successful years as Headmaster of The White House School, South Clapham. This is his second headship and he is excited by the opportunity of developing such a prestigious London Day School and Nursery. Mr Cummings is inspired by the challenge of ensuring every child has the opportunity to achieve at school, as well as providing a happy and nurturing learning environment for this to happen.

Who/what inspired you to become a teacher?

After an excellent experience teaching young disabled children to swim at a local SEN school in Sutton, as part of a six form citizenship programme at Wallington Grammar School, I knew that helping children and educating them was the right vocational choice for me.

What achievement are you most proud of as Head?

Every year I am immensely proud of the achievements of my students. Not just the amazing scholarships and offers that they so often achieve but the day to day improvements in their learning. When a child tells you they can now do something that they couldn't before, there is no finer moment for a Head.

What does a successful school look like to you?

A successful school is a happy school. A school where children look forward to attending each day, inspired and challenged by the learning presented to them. A successful school is one of excellent progress, no matter where the child's journey starts.

What is the most important quality you want every child to have when they leave your school? And why?

I believe every child should leave my school with confidence in their own ability and a life long love for learning. And why? Because with a positive attitude to learning and the confidence to approach any challenge or problem with a growth mindset will truly help prepare any pupil for a future yet imagined.

Please give 5 words to describe the ethos of your school.

Community, Kind, Positive, Endeavour, Courage.
