This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

School Description

The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the previous inspection. When you joined the school a year ago, you swiftly identified the main priorities. You elicited the help of other leaders in the Palladian Academy Trust and an external consultant to improve leadership and teaching. This is paying dividends. Leadership is now more widely distributed so that leaders at all levels have greater accountability for evaluating teaching. Leaders work closely with teachers and intervene when pupils need additional pastoral and academic support. This ensures that most pupils achieve well, and it is beginning to improve outcomes for pupils with previously variable progress. However, in recent months, there have been some unavoidable long-term absences, including your own, as well as changes of staff. As a result, leaders’ actions have not yet gathered sufficient momentum to have a sustained impact on outcomes for children in the early years, disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Good teaching over time ensures that most pupils achieve well at the end of key stages 1 and 2. In the past, the proportion of children achieving a good level of development in the early years has been below average. However, as a result of improvements to teaching, most children currently in the early years are making good progress, particularly in reading and writing.

“An excellent school”

"> Very nice staff, who work incredibly hard to provide a rounded education. My child is making consistent progress each year, but what is just as important is that the staff 'get' my son and know how to get the best from him. Children are treated as individuals, and special interventions are devised to help children who are not progressing at the expected rate. Children who are progressing at a faster rate than their peers are given challenges to complete, which stretch them a little further; children are encouraged to succeed, and not held back til the rest of the class catch up. Leadership is a slight issue; my personal opinion is that the Head is not very organised and this filters down through the school, meaning some years are also a bit disorganised. Late notice of events taking place and last-minute cancellations are a real bug-bear of mine, but seem to happening less frequently this year. All in all, I cannot recommend this school highly enough .
