This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Pupils are incredibly content in this school. Happiness shines through their exemplary behaviour. They have highly respectful relationships with each other and the adults in the school. There is a warm and welcoming atmosphere built around strong values, shared and understood by everyone. Pupils are proud to be part of this school. Leaders have very high expectations for pupils to achieve as well as they can. They have taken deliberate steps to build a culture where all pupils feel they can learn and succeed. Pupils talk passionately about ‘hot chocolate Fridays’ with the headteacher. They attend these for excellent behaviour or other recognised achievements. Pupils feel safe in school. They pointedly said that there is no bullying in school. One pupil spoke for all when they said, ‘We might have falling outs, but we resolve this ourselves or with our teachers.’ Pupils can and do take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities that they really enjoy. At all times, pupils feel listened to. They like their teachers and other staff who help them learn in the range of subjects they are taught. As a result, most pupils achieve well.

“An Excellent School”

"> I am a parent of a child currently in Year 4. I highly recommend this school. It fosters a nurturing, highly stimulating environment for learning and growing. The teaching is engaging and inspiring, and children are offered so many opportunities to learn new skills and develop in areas that are of interest to them, whether this be in music, sport, creativity, academics and so on. My child's confidence has grown considerably since attending this school. I have also been impressed by the commitment and engagement of all the staff, and their concern that school should be a safe happy place for the children.
“Not inclusive, poor SEN”

"> Like many other schools in the area, CSPA will suit the academic, diligent children, especially those likely to pass the 11 plus (generally those in the top set). With many highly qualified/educated parents, a lot of children benefit from strong parental support, especially with 11 plus tutoring, and so both the 11 plus and SATs results are reasonably good. CSPA is unlikely to suit any children with additional needs in my opinion (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADD, anxiety, speech and language, sensory difficulties). This is due to poor understanding displayed by the school, limited EFFECTIVE extra support, lack of funding to help in a meaningful way, and, in my experience, a lack of interest in helping these children. As a consequence, these children will not make the progress they should or are capable of, and fall further behind. The school is VERY competitive, and the focus is much on the top set academic children, both academically but also in terms of inclusivity in school teams and activities. These children often leave Year 6 with a sense of confidence. The same cannot be said for many of the children in the middle and lower sets. There is also a noticeable lack of inclusivity in the school sports teams. The school prioritises winning against other school sports teams, rather than being as inclusive as possible to all children (not just the very sporty ones). e.g table tennis, cross-country. What a missed opportunity. Sadly, our experience at this school has been negative and upsetting. The school have a patronising attitude towards parents of children who are struggling, as if the parents are somehow to blame. A new head started in early 2018 and we sincerely hope she will address the issues mentioned above.
