School Description

The school meets requirements on the publication of specified information on its website. Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre is a larger-than-average, mixed, 11 to 18 secondary comprehensive school. The number of pupils supported by the pupil premium funding is below average. The proportion of pupils from ethnic minority groups and who speak English as an additional language is lower than national averages. The proportion of pupils who receive support for SEN and/or disabilities is lower than Inspection report: Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre, 13–14 December 2017 Page 10 of 13 the national figure, as is the proportion of pupils who have a statement of SEN or an education, health and care plan. For a very small number of pupils, the school uses alternative provision at: – Larches High School – Preston Vocational Centre – McKee College House – Ashton Community Science College – Fulwood Academy – Lytham St Anne’s High School – Stephen Cole Hair Design – Milbanke Residential Home. The school does not meet the government’s current floor standards, which set minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress, but is not a coasting school. Officers from Lancashire local authority support the school.

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

See Pupil heat maps FAQs for more information about the source of pupil heat map data.

“Good School”
AUTHOR:
"> Very good school with good disapline and high expectations of its pupils. The size of the school is over come by good use of the house system. Any concerns are dealt with promptly and it is easy to contact staff to discuss issues. Exam results at GCSE are good.
“Not a Good School”
AUTHOR:
"> So OFSTED have been Dec 2017 and this school has went from a Good to Requires improvement . This is a dreadful result for the students and anyone who is thinking of sending their child there next year . You need to read the full report to get the full picture , The head must take full responsibility and the Governors who appointed him. instead of trying to blame the previous head who left in 2015 as he did in the Blackpool Gazette , Jan 2018 . The inspector noted that years 9-8 were the worst behaved of all the years , These years turned up since the new Head arrived this says it all. As a parent I can only say it is time that Mr Waller and his Senior leadership team went along with the Chair of Governors . Start a fresh and give our Kids the best chance at their one and only opportunity at a good education.
