School Description

Bowdon Preparatory School is an independent non-selective primary day school for girls between the ages of three and 11 years of age. The school aims to ‘engender a love of learning and a confident and enthusiastic approach to study’. The school is registered for 320 pupils and there are currently 320 girls on roll; this includes 24 children in the kindergarten that attend the school on a part-time basis. No pupils have statements of special educational needs. The school opened in September 1983 and was previously on two sites. In 2011, the preparatory department merged with the preparatory department of Culcheth Hall School and relocated to the current site. In 2012, the kindergarten also moved to the current site. The school has been granted exemption from the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Hence, these aspects were not inspected. The school is housed in spacious accommodation in a residential area in Altrincham. The school was last inspected in November 2009. Since then, the number on roll has increased by more than 100 and the size of the teaching staff has almost doubled. Since the last inspection the ownership of the school has changed and there is now a board of trustees.

Bowdon Preparatory School for Girls Parent Reviews

Average Parent Rating

“Fantastic School”

My daughter moved to this school in year 3 and is now in year 4. She knew none of the other girls there and was quite shy with her peers at her old school so we were a little apprehensive about how she would integrate. The teachers and other girls there have been fantastic and she is flourishing both academically and socially. The office staff are fantastic and always happy and helpful and the teachers are always approachable and accommodating.. They really do have the balance right between academics and building the girls’ confidence in themselves as individuals and as learners. I highly recommend this school.
“Simply fantastic”

Bowdon Preparatory School for Girls is simply fantastic! My three daughters love it there, and as a parent, that's the most reassuring feeling. The school provides a caring environment, excellent teachers, and diverse activities that have sparked their enthusiasm for learning and allowed them to explore their interests. It's a wonderful community, and I couldn't be happier with the positive impact it's had on my girls' education and happiness.
“Highly recommend”

This is a really good school. The teachers go out of the way to not only make the children feel welcome but also the parents, and this really means a lot especially for those who have recently moved to the country.
“Highly recommend BPS”

We moved back home from abroad in 2021 and our daughters (4 and 8) joined BPS mid year. The school was absolutely fantastic in helping the girls feel welcome and supporting them to settle in quickly. Individual attention was given to each child to help them settle, and the teachers, Heads of Year and Head kept in close contact with us. Since then both of our girls are thriving and love school. Both girls are nurtured as individuals, and our eldest is being helped to overcome gaps in previous learning. She especially is building confidence through the investment the school makes in building resilient and well rounded individuals. We’ve recently moved and although there are other independent schools closer to us we wouldn’t dream of moving the girls as they truly feel they are part of the BPS family.
