“Finally found his people...”

My ASD Son started at Birtley House having been to 3 mainstream primary schools and we were not holding much hope to be honest. He was a complete school refuser and just the mention of school would make him ill with anxiety. Despite my reservations, the school was very helpful and accommodating during our EHCP process and offered a place on a taster week. My son instantly fell in love with the school. He said it was unlike anywhere he had ever been and he thought it was all a dream! After fighting with the local authority, I secured him a place and he was eager to get back. Since January, my anxious little boy who claimed he would never have friends, learn to read or in fact do anything positive at all, has a relatable social group, is now reading at an age ahead of his own, absolutely smashing maths and most importantly is HAPPY! I cannot stress enough how much this school has changed our lives in less than a year and I know I am merely echoing the thoughts of other parents at the school... Birtley House is a family. Everyone is welcome, everyone is loved and everyone is smiling. If you are looking for a SEN setting for your child, please take a look at this school. You will not regret it. Quote from my 9 yr old son - 'I finally found my people...'
