School Description

Underpinned by the International Baccalaureate philosophy Bedford Girls' School focuses on providing a truly holistic education for girls. Central to their ethos is delivering an education which is not solely determined by academic success but by developing wider learner attributes. The school teaches students to think for themselves, to question and inquire. It develops growth mindsets, where students are willing to work independently, move out of their comfort zones, reflect on their decisions and learn from their mistakes. This approach yields excellent results both in and outside of the classroom and our happy, confident girls leave prepared for life in a globalised world.

IMPRESSIVE IB RESULTS

Bedford Girls’ School is delighted to announce another set of strong International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme results.

The average score (out of a maximum of 45 points) for the BGS 2016 cohort is 36.4, significantly higher than the worldwide average of 30 points.

For the second time in BGS’ short history a student, Sophie Allen, has achieved an extraordinary 45 points, the highest grade possible, placing her in the top 0.1% of IB students worldwide. In addition, Iona Webster impressively scored a 7 in her Higher Level Maths, an incredibly difficult mark to achieve. Both girls are waiting for confirmation of their Oxbridge places.

Over two thirds of the Higher Level papers achieved the equivalent of an A to A*, whilst 85% of all Standard Level papers recorded an equivalent of an A* to B.

Miss Jo MacKenzie, Bedford Girls’ School Headmistress, said: "I believe the IB Diploma is an outstanding qualification, offering students not only a strong academic grounding but embedding a breadth of skills which will provide an incredible foundation for life.”

Bedford Girls’ School Sixth Form is proud to offer The International Baccalaureate, a challenging and well-rounded programme of study leading to an internationally recognised and well-respected award.

ENGLAND CRICKET CAPTAINS HELPS BEDFORD PUPIL RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY

Bedford Girls' School student, Izzy Gurney, was joined by England cricket greats, Alastair Cook and Graham Gooch, on in her efforts to raise money for charity at a recent cricket event at the school. Seventeen year old Izzy, Buckinghamshire U17 Girls Captain, hosted an evening of cricket on Bedford School's cricket pitches as part of her Playing For Pitches campaign in support of Afghan Connection, a charity that supports refugees returning to Afghanistan.

Old Bedfordian Alastair Cook, and Graham Gooch, held masterclasses for Bedford School and BGS students, and signed shirts, ahead of mini games between the two schools’ teachers and students.

Miss MacKenzie, Bedford Girls’ School Headmistress, said: “It is part of the School’s ethos to engage in community and charity work. Our girls are passionate about the rights of girls and women across the world, and choose to support causes which address these issues.” She added: "For the boys and girls to work collaboratively on important issues such as Playing For Pitches is very rewarding for them, and helps them grow as individuals.”
