School Description

Barnwood Park Arts College is smaller than the average-sized secondary school, catering for pupils between the ages of 11 to 16. The first cohort of boys was admitted into Year 7 in September 2018. An unusually high number of pupils leave the school roll at points other than at the end of Year 11. Many pupils join the school, either mid-year or at points other than in Year 7. The proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals is in line with the national average. The proportion of pupils with SEND is above national figures. There was a larger-thanaverage increase in the proportion of pupils requiring special educational needs support between 2017 and 2018. The proportion of pupils with an education, health and care plan is lower than the national average. The majority of pupils are White British. The school has 15 out of the 17 possible Inspection report: Barnwood Park Arts College, 3 to 4 July 2019 Page 9 of 12 ethnic groups set out in Ofsted’s Inspection Data Summary Report. The proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language is just below the national average.

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

Barnwood Park School Reviews

BY PARENTS, FOR PARENTS

“Your daughter deserves to go to this school”
AUTHOR:
"> This is an excellent school! The head teacher and staff are dedicated to helping every girl reach their potential in both academic and personal achievements. They give up time during most, if not all holiday times to ensure all girls have the option to attend revision sessions at GCSE level. To help with the transition from primary school they also run a summer school in addition to the usual school visits. This really helped my daughter when she started a few years ago to meet new friends and feel comfortable. I have two older boys and have experience of two other Gloucester schools and I can genuinely say that Barnwood Park Arts Collage is the best. So if you have a daughter you will not be disappointed if you choose this school!
