Since 2014, School Guide has been awarding star ratings to schools across the UK. The star ratings are added to a certificate we create for every rated school to download for free.

Each year at the start of the autumn term, we write to schools inviting them to claim their Certificate of Excellence and this year's certificates are now available.

Victoria Bond, CEO and Founder of School Guide says:

"As the UK's leading school website visited by thousands of parents each day, we know how difficult it is to run a school with all the demands the government and Ofsted place upon teachers and staff, and never more so than in 2020 during the unprecedented challenges of the global pandemic and school closures.

“Our School Guide Star ratings are a great way for schools to demonstrate their commitment to academic excellence. They are tesimony to a phenonmenal amount of hard work by all staff and pupils."

Schools can display their Certificate or add a digital badge to their webiste

Many schools display their School Guide Certificate of Excellence in their school reception or entrance hall and an increasing number of schools add a digital School Guide star rating badge to their own website. It's a great way to show parents a summary of results and inspection outcomes from the last academic year.

What are School Guide star ratings based on?

School Guide star ratings are our own unique rating for each school, ranging from one to five stars. The rating gives a clear and easily understood summary of how well each school has performed in the previous year based on key statistics. The School Guide rating is based on official data and is 100% objective. Data points used to calculate the School Guide star rating include key performance data and inspection ratings.

We welcome comments on each school from parents but our Parent Reviews are not used to influence the rating in any way.

It's important to note that a separate School Guide star rating algorithm is created for each country and is unique to its dataset. You can read more about how we calculate our ratings on our About page

This week we were so happy to see pupils at Ripon Grammar School proudly displaying their 5-Star Certificate of Excellence (below). Headmaster Jonathan Webb said he was delighted that all the hard work of dedicated staff and students at RGS had been recognised. A 5-Star Certificate ranks the school among the very best in the UK.
