Wellesley Haddon Dene School Parent Reviews

Average Parent Rating

“Ex Parent”

I have been fortunate to have had three children at Wellesley. It really is an exceptional school with a staff that go the extra mile. The school needs visiting to discover what the Headmaster calls The Wellesley Way. My children have made life long friends at the school thanks to the friendly boarding arrangements. They achieved more in the classroom and on the playing fields than we ever thought was possible. It really is a very special school.
“Wellesley - Outstanding Opportunities”

Although having only been a Wellesley parent for a short time, the opportunities now open to my daughter are incredible. All the staff are welcoming and give a real family feel to this traditional school. The encouragement and support given is second to none and the location by the seaside just tops it off. Highly recommended.
“Seaside Wellesley”

We were lucky to discover Wellesley House School, a wonderful, private, co-educational boarding/day prep school in Broadstairs. It is very close to the beach, and dates back to 1866. We love the ‘family feel’ and friendliness of the school and how it has motivated our children. They love their school life here on the coast. From art and geography lessons on the beach to playing a variety of sports in the sea-air, we believe that we could not have picked a better school to give them both a brilliant education but also memories they will treasure forever.

Meet the Head: Mr Simon O'Malley

Simon O' Malley has been Headmaster since 2006. Before gaining his PGCE, Mr O'Malley read English at the University of Aberdeen and went on to gain extensive experience in preparatory schools both in the UK and abroad. He was Head of English at The Banda School, Nairobi in 1987, joined Newland House in Twickenham in 1994 and became Deputy Head of Beaudesert Park in 1997.

Who/what inspired you to become a teacher?

Two things; people who taught me, including my grandfather, and people I worked with when I took a gap year following university, with no intention of teaching, but, working in a school.

What achievement are you most proud of as Head?

The pupils.  The children who have moved on and are now successful, happy, motivated, interested.  Hopefully creating an environment which has had a positive influence on them, giving them courage and vitality.

What does a successful school look like to you?

Busy, happy, productive, forward thinking, energetic, creative, motivated staff, messy.  Schools are living, breathing and dynamic.

What is the most important quality you want every child to have when they leave your school? And why?

Explorers – willing to give life a go, with integrity, kindness and decency and to have an awareness of others.  You want them to feel that the world is theirs and that they are ready.  You want them to be triers and doers and not be afraid of having a go.  Being good citizens. Because life is all about discovery, but you also want them to have integrity.

Please give 5 words to describe the ethos of your school.

Happy, kind, imaginative, adventurous, thoughtful.
