Waltham Holy Cross Junior School is larger than the average primary school. It is due to close in September 2015 when Waltham Holy Cross Infant School will increase its age range to accommodate pupils in Key Stage 2. The school is led jointly by an executive headteacher and the headteacher of the linked infant school, who both work part time at the school. Since the previous inspection, the school has experienced a large number of staff changes in the teaching team. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and supported by additional funding for disadvantaged pupils is broadly average. Most pupils are from White British backgrounds. The proportions of pupils from minority ethnic groups and those who speak English as an additional language are below average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is above average. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which are the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Key Stage 2.
