St Michael’s Church of England Primary School is slightly bigger than the average-sized primary school. The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic groups is smaller than average. A higher than average proportion of pupils is known to be eligible for the pupil premium. This is additional funding provided by the government to support pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, children in local authority care and children whose parents are in the Armed Forces. There is a higher proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs supported at school action level than is seen in most primary schools and the proportion supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is also above average. The proportion of pupils joining and leaving partway through their primary school education is much higher than average. A children’s centre linked to the school shares the school site. It was not part of this inspection. The school does not meet the government’s floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress.
