School Description

This school is smaller than the average-sized primary school. Most pupils are White British. The proportion from minority ethnic heritages is below average. Less than 10% speak English as an additional language, which is also below average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs supported through school action is below average: the percentage of pupils supported by school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is average. Nearly half the pupils are in receipt of pupil premium, which is much higher than in most schools nationally. Pupil premium is additional government funding for pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals, those looked after by the local authority and pupils with a parent in the armed services. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. Before-school care and holiday schemes are run by an independent provider. This provision is registered with Ofsted and inspected separately. The school was placed in special measures in May 2012 and, subsequently, the local authority replaced the governing body with an interim executive board. The acting headteacher and the acting deputy headteacher were appointed from September 2012. Her Majesty’s Inspector has monitored the school’s progress over two days each term.
