South Hylton is an average-sized primary school. Almost all pupils are of White British heritage with very few at the early stage of learning English. A much larger than average proportion of pupils is known to be eligible for free school meals. The proportion of disabled pupils and those supported at school action plus and those with a statement of special educational needs is higher than average. There is a higher than average proportion of pupils whose circumstances make them potentially vulnerable. The school meets the current floor standards which set out the government’s minimum expectations for attainment and progress. The school extends its services in that it provides a breakfast club and after-school club each day. The school has achieved the Artsmark Gold, Fairtrade Status and the EcoSchool Silver award.
