School Description

Sir Frank Whittle Primary became part of the Inspire Federation following the judgement of special measures in January 2013. The school has a new strategic governing body that sits across all three schools and a school committee that has delegated responsibility for the day-to-day monitoring. Sir Frank Whittle Primary is an average-sized primary school. The majority of pupils are White British. There are small numbers of pupils from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language is higher than the national average. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils known to be eligible for the pupil premium (extra funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and looked after children) is well above the national average and represents more than half of the pupils in the school. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs (almost three out of ten) is above average. One pupil is currently in alternative provision, at The Key. Provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage is full time. The school also runs a breakfast club. The school meets the government’s current floor standard, which is the minimum expectation for pupils’ attainment and progress.
