School Description

The school is larger than the average-sized secondary school. The sixth form is part of the Kingswood Partnership, a consortium of four local schools. Around a fifth of students are known to be eligible for pupil premium (additional government funding for students known to be eligible for free school meals, and those looked after by the local authority or those from service families), which is below average. The proportion of students for whom the school receives additional Year 7 catch-up funds is below average. The proportions of students supported at school action are below average, as are those at school action plus and with a statement of special educational needs. A number of students are educated part time at alternative provision at a number of different placements including Didac Ltd, Woodwork Academy, S&B Automotive, KTs Training and the St Werburgh’s City Farm. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress. Since the previous inspection, the school has made significant staffing cuts over a two year period, following the withdrawal of additional funds allocated for developing diplomas. During the last year a large number of students have transferred to the school, especially in Year 7, which has meant the school has had to increase the number of tutor groups.
